Prescribed burn today on Peterson Hill

The Idaho Department of Lands is planning a six-acre prescribed burn today on Peterson Hill that will be highly visible from town and Highway 95.

This burn is to reduce heavy logging slash resulting form the recent timber harvest.

The burn area is in a north facing bowl, which often remain too damp to burn in the spring. The recent prolonged period of dry weather has dried fuels sufficiently at this time.

The forecast is calling for a change to much more moist conditions, beginning overnight and lasting through next week.

If you are planning on conducting any burning this week, please be extremely careful as fuel conditions are unusually dry for this time of year.

Please call Boundary County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 267-3151 prior to burning. Burn permits from the Idaho Department of Lands will be required starting May 10.
