Seniors … are you ready to exercise?

It’s been a long year since the cancellation of the Bonners Ferry “Fit and Fall Proof” class due to Covid 19. Instructors are excited to finally begin again on Monday, April 5.

Because of scheduling problems, there are some changes in both place and time. The class will continue at the VFW Hall at the Senior Hospitality Center, 6635 Lincoln Street, Bonners Ferry, 158 Meadow Creek Road, Bonners Ferry on Mondays and Fridays, but will be at the Church of the Nazarene on Wednesdays.

Times have also changed. The Monday class will be at 10:45 a.m., the Wednesday at 11 a.m. and the Friday class at 1 p.m.

This free class is specifically targeted for older adults or anyone who would like to improve their fitness, their use of self, or those who have a history of falling or a fear of falling, with instruction adapted to whatever abilities attendees come to class with.

The class will take you safely through a process of improving strength, flexibility, mobility, balance and endurance.

Karen Meeker is a physical therapist and a Feldenkrais® practitioner and Cynthia Knittel a physical therapy assistant with vast experience working with senior citizens.

Based on their knowledge of movement and the importance of attention in learning to move more easily, they will be addressing functional topics such as posture improvement, coming up from sitting to standing, reaching for the floor, coming up from the floor, reaching into a cupboard, turning to look behind you in your car — all those activities that typically become more difficult with age.

During this process, you will learn strategies to help ease pain and discomfort, prevent injury, increase energy, reduce stress and improve concentration. With the use of music and other “toys” the sessions are fun and engaging. Do we stop playing because we get older or do we get older because we stop playing? Come and play with us!

Please call the Senior Center at (208) 267-5554 to pre-register.
