The Badger varsity boy’s basketball team is on a three game win streak and set to play Kellogg in the season’s league opener at home at 4:30 p.m. during a full afternoon of basketball at BFHS.
The Badger boys opened their season November 28, defeating Stillwater Christian 67-55, but they fell in their next two matchups, 74-47 to St. Maries and 62-29 to Coeur d’Alene. On December 15, they downed Wallace, 62-54.
The Badgers closed the gap in a rematch with St. Maries December 18, falling 47-34, fought a tough and close game to Sandpoint, coming up just short 73-66 and again defeated Wallace in a blow out coming off Christmas break January 5, 85-43.
The Badgers go into today’s game with a 3-4 season record, Kellogg is 1-3 on the season, their sole win against Priest River December 5, 64-44.
Badger Coach Nathan Williams said he’s happy with his team’s unselfish play and they’ve focused of late on their defense, communication and playing with more intensity.
“This season Ethan Hubbard and Ridge Williams are leading us in assists while Braeden Blackmore is tearing up the boards averaging eight rebounds a game,” he said. “Both Bo Bateman and Travis Petersen are leading the defensive effort with taking the most charges on the team. Braden Blackmore and Ridge Williams are leading the team in steals and also points per game.
“We are young and not tall, but like our community we work hard, have heart and give it our all every second of the game. I love this team and look forward to today.”
The varsity Lady Badgers are on their way to an exciting season, with an overall record of 7-3 and 1-1 in league with a win over Priest River January 7, 61-24, and a loss to league leader Timberlake January 12, 58-25.
The Lady Badgers started their season with four straight commanding wins; Lakeside 68-45, Wallace 70-44, Stillwater Christian 67-29, and St. Maries 63-48, before falling to Lakeland December 8, 60-49.
The girls defeated Wallace 44-32 and Genesis Prep 59-3 before falling to Sandpoint 40-30, won their league opener against Priest River and fell to the Tigers.
The Wildcat girls are ranked second in league behind Timberlake with a season record of 3-4 and a 2-0 league record, having defeated Priest River twice; in their season opener 54-20 and again January 12, 53-17.
The varsity girl’s game kicks off at 3 p.m., and it’s Senior Night before the game begins, honoring the team’s seniors and their parents.
The JV girls kick off the BFHS hoops action at noon today, the boy’s JV squad hits the floor at 1:30 p.m.
