Community youth leader charged with four counts of lewd conduct with minors

A Bonners Ferry Boy Scout leader and fifth and sixth grade football coaching assistant is in jail on four felony counts of lewd conduct with a minor under age 16 for alleged sexual abuse of boys as young as five years old going back nearly a decade.

William Austin “Bill” Blumenauer, 46, was charged by the Bonners Ferry Police Department on Tuesday. According to court documents, Count I alleges that Blumenauer did, between the years 2012 to 2019, perform oral sex on a five-year-old boy, Count II alleges that during the years 2018 and 2019 he engaged in oral and anal sex with a 10-year-old boy, Count III alleges that during the years 2015 and 2016 he performed oral sex on a 13-year-old boy and Count 4 alleges that during the years 2015 to 2016 he performed oral sex on a 13-year-old boy.

On January 13, an order was made to appoint a public defender and Judge Justin Julian set bond at $1-million. Preliminary hearing before Judge Julian is set for 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 22.

Bonners Ferry Police Chief Brian Zimmerman said there is still significant investigation underway and that no additional information is being released at this time.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison on each count.
