The obituary honoring the life of Rockey Lee Burkholder written by Dr. Marty Becker, DVM, should be required reading for everyone living here in Boundary County. I have never read such a truthful, heartrending account of one’s life, ever.
Quite simply, it is a masterpiece.
Thank you, Marty. You surgically degaussed every social preconception that society has imposed upon it’s most-vulnerable members.
Rockey was everything you said about him, and more. In my eyes, Rockey pulled his own (and that was a lot of) weight. He was the personification of turning lemons into lemonade.
Again, thank you for exposing the two proverbial turds-in-a-well who cast shade upon Rockey at every opportunity. That took courage and was a long-time-coming. I, as well, know who they are. History will reveal who is remembered.
I hope, someday soon, to see a big, fat rock somewhere here in town emblazoned with Rockey’s ever-round, smiling face as a tribute for all times. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
Marty, thank you for revealing your humanity.
