Family of four loses home to fire

UPDATED: A family of five, with one on the way all got out safely, but lost everything, including Christmas, in a house fire on Eagle Crest Road east of Moyie Springs at about 2:49 a.m. today. The home was fully engulfed when the call to dispatch was made and Curley Creek firefighters and others who responded to provide mutual aid could only keep the flames from spreading.

“Our house burned down last night,” Hannah Nicholas posted to Facebook this morning. “We lost everything we owned and a life time of memories but the important thing is everyone is okay.”

We have briefly been in contact with Hannah, who lived in the home with her three young children and boyfriend, but she was too overwhelmed to say much. We know they will need the community’s help to find a new home and get back on their feet. We will accept contributions of household items and other immediate needs at the Kootenai Valley Times Office, 6931 Main Street, Bonners Ferry. Please use the rear entrance.

A family friend said there are two girls, ages two and three who wear size 2T and 3T, and a boy, not sure of his age but who wears size 6T. The adults wear women’s lg clothing, 10-11 shoes, men’s xl clothing, 10.5 shoes.

We will accept donations, cards and letters to the family, dropped off at our office or mailed to Daniel and Hannah Nicholas, c/o KVT, P.O. Box 1625, Bonners Ferry, ID 83805, with checks made payable to Daniel Nicholas. A GoFundMe account has also been established to assist the family.
