First half property taxes due by December 21

Boundary County Treasurer Susan M. Larson reminds all Boundary County taxpayers that the deadline for paying the first half of the 2020 property taxes without penalty is Monday, December 21, since the original date of December 20 falls on Sunday.

Tax notices were mailed in November and may be paid in two installments; the first half by December 20 and the remainder by June 20, 2021. Any portion of the assessed tax may be paid at any time, but if there is a remaining balance on the first half after December 20, a two-percent late charge is immediately applied. After January 1, interest of one percent per month is added to the unpaid first half balance.

Tax payments can be made in person using check, cash, debit or credit card (convenience fees are charged on all debit/credit card usage by the processing company) at the Treasurer’s office in room 27 of the Boundary County Courthouse, 6452 Kootenai Street, Bonners Ferry. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

There is a drop box for payments (no cash payments in the drop box, please!) in front of the Courthouse, as there is only one taxpayer allowed in the office at a time due to social distancing rules.

Tax payments can be mailed to the Boundary County Treasurer, P.O. Box 218, Bonners Ferry, ID 83805. Mailed payments must be postmarked no later than December 21 to avoid penalty.

Credit Cards and other payment options are available online, these services also incur a convenience fee by the processing company.
