National Weather Service offices in both Spokane and Missoula have issued air stagnation advisories; in effect in North Idaho until 11 a.m. Thursday and through noon Thursday for all of Montana west of the Continental Divide.
Unseasonably cold temperatures Monday and Tuesday night will contribute to strong inversions that will linger into the late morning or early afternoon hours. The combination of milder temperatures and light east winds should bring better mixing to the region by late week.
If possible, reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and the use of
residential wood burning devices. Reduce vehicle trips and vehicle idling as much as possible. Check with local agencies for possible restriction in your area.
