A former Bonners Ferry resident was hit by a car Wednesday morning while riding his bicycle to work in Pensacola, Florida, sustaining serious injuries and possible paraplegia.
Ron Fodge, 39, who worked in the meat department at Boundary Trading Company before he moved, was thrown behind a pile of debris and not found until 12 hours later. He suffered two fractured vertebra and several broken ribs, with one bone fragment slightly piercing his aorta.
His wife, Shellie, said he is paralyzed from the waist down and has no sensation from mid-chest down. He underwent surgery this morning to repair his aorta and stabilize his spine, and doctors say his spinal cord is seriously damaged but not severed.
Additional surgEries are being planned.
A GoFundMe account has been established to help the family during this perilous time and through his recovery, and all donations and prayers are graciously appreciated.
