Everyone at Naples Elementary excited to open the doors

By Administrative Assistant Amanda Gardener, Naples Elementary

It is with great excitement Naples announces a few fabulous changes as we prepare to open the doors for our students as they return to school!

One big change is … the doors! The main entrance and the office has now moved to the area where buses used to drop off students. This improvement will provide increased supervision and safety for our students throughout the day.

Parents will now drop off students and check in at this area. The former entrance will be locked at all times, as that area is now designated as our support services department and classrooms.

We are also welcoming former Principal Robin Merrifield back from her adventures in Hawaii. Mr. Newhouse is on deck at Valley View. Mrs. Merrifield is beyond excited to once again be a member of the Naples team and community. She has missed the Naples family dearly!

If your student is heading into third grade, they will have the good fortune of having Mrs. Krejci as their teacher! Mrs. Lucas followed her passion for English and Language Arts to the middle school. So they will still get to have her, they’ll just have to wait a few years! She will be missed.

Mrs. Krejci has already been busy making the third grade room spectacular!

A couple other shifts are our library and the addition of a STEAM/STEM/Maker Space classroom. The library will now be housed in the former Kindergarten classroom.

STEAM/STEM are acronyms for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. This room will be a place for students to dig deeper and explore learning immersed in these areas. This classroom reinforces our magnet school concept. It will be supported with the addition of an AmeriCorps teacher, sponsored by the University of Idaho & 4-H Extension programs.

We can’t wait to see student imaginations take flight!

Our former library/Title room will now house kindergarten and first grade with a teacher and a full-time paraprofessional to support that classroom. Those spaces looks amazing and so enriching!

With all that good news, it will make the new COVID expectations a little easier to adjust to.

Currently, the district plans for students and staff to return to school in Category 2 (aka “yellow”) of their Re-Opening Plan, which can be viewed at www.bcsd101.com.

This entails students being divided into two groups (A and B). Group A will come to campus on Monday and Tuesday, while Group B engages in distance learning from home. On Wednesday and Thursday, the groups will switch (Group A at home and Group B on campus).

The Board may decide to change categories as the state health district determines appropriate. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we all navigate these waters.

In addition to the three re-opening categories, all schools will be exercising a one hour early dismissal each day. This will allow for teachers to prepare and communicate with their at-home students and families daily. Therefore, Naples classes will begin at 7:45 a.m. and dismiss at 2:25 p.m. until further notice.

Once again, we are excited! We hope to see students and families back in our hallways very soon!

Our new front office will be opened Monday, August 24. If you would like to enroll your kiddo, please stop by or contact us at (208) 267-2956.
